Dutch Manufacturing Output Rebounds in July

Manufacturing production in the Netherlands rose by 1.6% month-on-month in July 2026, rebounding from a revised 1.0% decline in the previous month. The increase was supported by stronger output in machinery (6.6% vs. -3.1%), leather and footwear (7.2% vs. -3.7%), paper (6.4% vs. 4.4%), chemical products (2.3% vs. 0.7%), food (1.9% vs. -3.2%) and metal products (1.6% vs. -0.6%). These gains were partly offset by declines in wood (-9.4% vs. 0.4%), automotive and trailers (-7.2% vs. 0.3%), machine repair and installation (-6.4% vs. 0.1%), electrical appliances (-4.7% vs. -2.0%) and other transport equipment (-4.5% vs. 0.3%). Output also fell in textiles (-2.1% vs. -1.2%), rubber and plastics (-2.8% vs. -0.4%) and basic metals (-3.2% vs. 0.4%).

Manufacturing production in the Netherlands fell 1.3% month-on-month in June 2026, following an upwardly revised 1.1% increase in May. This marked the first decline in manufacturing output since February, with production falling mainly in food (-4.8% vs. 1.0% in May), leather and footwear (-4.1% vs. 2.6%), electrical appliances (-1.9% vs. 0.5%), and machinery (-2.9% vs. 7.0%). Output also continued to decline in textiles (-0.2% vs. -0.5%), paper (-0.7% vs. -2.2%), rubber and plastics (-0.4% vs. -1.0%), and metal products (-1.6% vs. -2.4%). On a yearly basis, manufacturing production increased 4.6%, easing from a 6.8% rise in May. Output grew in nearly half of the underlying sectors, with the machinery industry once again recording the largest increase, while machine repair and installation posted the biggest decline.

Growth moderated across several industries, particularly in food (0.7% vs 1% in April), leather and footwear (2.3% vs 3.7%), and basic metal (1.3% vs 2.1%), while production dropped in textiles (-1.1% vs 3.7%), wood (-1.6% vs 1.6%), chemical (-6.1% vs 3.8%), metal products (-4.4% vs 3.1%), electrical appliance (-0.4% vs 11.6%), and building materials (-1.7% vs 1.6%). Additionally, activity declined at a faster pace in pharmaceuticals (-11.2% vs -9.1%) and rubber and plastics (-1.5% vs -0.8%). On a yearly basis, manufacturing production grew by 4.9% in May, unchanged from the preceding period.
