Dutch Inflation Rate Steady at 2.4%

The annual inflation rate in the Netherlands remained steady at 2.4% in February 2026, unchanged from January’s over two-year low, according to preliminary estimates.

Price growth slowed across several product groups, notably food, beverages, and tobacco (1.4% vs 2.0% in January) and industrial goods excluding energy and motor fuels (0.3% vs 0.6%).

Meanwhile, services saw faster inflation (4.2% vs 3.9%), while energy prices including motor fuels eased to 0.0% from 0.3% in January.

The index for consumption abroad declined by 0.9%, reversing a 0.2% rise in the previous month.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices are expected to jump 1%, the largest increase since late July, rebounding from a 0.7% fall in January.

HICP-based inflation, which excludes owner-occupied housing costs, came in at 2.3% in February, up slightly from 2.2% in January.

The annual inflation rate in the Netherlands slowed to 2.4% in January 2026, confirming preliminary estimates and from a revised 2.9% in December. This marked the lowest reading since December 2023, largely due to a sharp moderation in food and non-alcoholic beverage inflation (2% vs 3.3%). Inflation also eased for housing and utilities (3.8% vs 4.1%), health (1% vs 4.5%), recreation, sports and culture (2.2% vs 3.2%), restaurants and accommodation (3.9% vs 4.7%), insurance and financial services (4.2% vs 6.1%), and miscellaneous goods and services (3.8% vs 4%). Meanwhile, prices declined for clothing and footwear (-0.5% vs 1%) and information and communication (-0.6% vs -1.9%). In contrast, transport costs rose at a faster pace (2.1% vs 1.9%), as did household goods and services (1.5% vs 0.5%). On a monthly basis, the CPI fell 0.7%, following a 0.2% increase in December. HICP inflation, which excludes owner-occupied housing, rose 2.2% year-on-year, easing from 2.7% in December.

This marked the lowest reading since December 2023, as price growth slowed across most product groups, particularly food, beverages, and tobacco (2.0% vs 3.1% in December). Inflation also moderated for industrial goods excluding energy and motor fuels (0.6% vs 0.9%) and for services (3.9% vs 4.1%). On the other hand, energy prices including motor fuels rebounded (0.4% vs -0.4%). Meanwhile, the index for consumption abroad rose 0.2% year-on-year, easing from a 0.5% increase in December. On a monthly basis, consumer prices were expected to fall by 0.7%, following a 0.2% increase in the previous month. HICP-based annual inflation, which excludes owner-occupied housing costs, was estimated at 2.2%, down from 2.7% in December.
