Netherlands Current Account Surplus Widens in Q2

The Netherlands’ current account surplus widened to €16.91 billion in the second quarter of 2026 from €13.10 billion in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.

The goods account surplus increased to €16.29 billion from €13.04 billion, while the services account surplus rose to €13.88 billion from €13.19 billion.

Moreover, the primary account deficit narrowed to €10.98 billion from €11.36 billion.

In contrast, the secondary account deficit grew to €2.27 billion from €1.78 billion a year earlier.

Netherlands Q1 Current Account Widens
The Netherlands’ current account surplus widened to €26.28 billion in the first quarter of 2026 from a downwardly revised €23.28 billion in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The goods account surplus widened to €22.40 billion from €22.0 billion, while the services account surplus also rose to €9.17 billion from €8.36 billion. Additionally, the primary income shortfall shrank significantly by €1.84 billion to €0.39 billion from €2.23 billion a year earlier. On the other hand, the secondary income deficit increased to €4.91 billion from €4.82 billion.

Netherlands Current Account Surplus Largely Stable in Q4
The Netherlands’ current account surplus came in at €34.52 billion in the fourth quarter of 2025, largely unchanged from €34.52 billion in the corresponding period a year ago. The goods surplus expanded to €28.72 billion from €25.57 billion, and the services surplus rose to €13.60 billion from €12.61 billion. Conversely, the primary income gap widened to €2.99 billion from €0.58 billion, and the secondary income deficit went up to €4.79 billion from €3.09 billion. For the full year 2025, the current account surplus narrowed to €92.62 billion from €102.66 billion in 2024.
