Moldova Inflation Rate Highest in 18 Months

Moldova’s annual inflation rate rose to 8.6% in September 2026 from 7.0% in the previous month, marking the highest level since March 2025.

Food inflation accelerated to 5.1% from 4.7% in August, with the largest increases recorded in vegetables (+8.0%), fruits (+6.6%), and milk and dairy products (+5.7%), followed by wheat flour and bread, eggs, vegetable oil, and meat, meat preparations and canned goods.

Prices of non-food products also rose at a faster pace (9.0% vs. 8.2%), particularly for fuels and motor fuels (+34.5%), as well as footwear, clothing, medicines, and construction materials.

Meanwhile, services inflation climbed to 12.6% from 8.1%, amid higher costs for passenger transport, regulated electricity and natural gas tariffs, drinking water supply, sewage services, and public catering.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 1.7% in September, up from 0.2% in the previous month.

The annual inflation rate in Moldova rose to 7.0% in August 2026 from 6.3% in the previous month, marking the highest level since November 2025. Prices of non-food products accelerated (8.2% vs 6.6% in July), driven by strong increases in fuels and motor fuels, footwear, clothing, construction materials, and medicines. At the same time, price growth in services rose further (8.1% vs 7.4%), supported by increases in passenger transport, regulated tariffs for electricity supply, drinking water supply and sewage services, and public catering. Meanwhile, inflation for food products moderated to 4.7% from 5.2%, despite notable increases in eggs, wheat flour and bread, milk and dairy products, vegetables, vegetable oil, fruits, and meat, meat preparations and canned goods. On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.2% in August, rebounding from a 0.1% decline in the prior month.

Moldova Inflation Rate Eases in July
Moldova’s annual inflation rate eased to 6.3% in July 2026 from 6.5% in June, marking the lowest reading in four months. The moderation was driven mainly by slower food inflation (5.2% vs. 5.7%), as vegetable price growth slowed sharply. Inflation also eased for bread, meat and eggs, while fresh fruit and dairy prices accelerated modestly. Non-food inflation was broadly stable (6.6% vs. 6.5%), with fuel and lubricants remaining the main source of pressure (18.7% vs. 19.1%). Services inflation edged down slightly (7.35% vs. 7.43%), despite an acceleration in passenger transport costs (28.7% vs. 27.7%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.1% month-on-month in July 2026, matching the 0.1% decline recorded in the previous month.
