Moldova Trade Deficit Widens in November

Moldova recorded a trade deficit of USD 583.3 million in November 2025, widening sharply from USD 478.4 million in the same month last year, as imports outpaced exports. Imports rose 20.3% year-on-year to USD 979.2 million, driven by higher purchases from the EU (up 28.0%), CIS countries (up 3.9%), and other regions (up 12.6%). Exports grew 18.0% to USD 395.9 million, supported by increased sales to CIS countries (up 13.4%), the EU (up 8.8%), and other countries (up 52.0%). For the January–November period, Moldova’s trade deficit expanded to USD 6,392.0 million, compared with USD 4,934.7 million in the same period last year.

Moldova posted a trade deficit of USD 586.3 million in October 2025, widening sharply from USD 461.1 million in the corresponding month last year, as imports rose more than exports. Imports rose by 25.7% year-on-year to USD 995.5 million, driven by increased purchases from EU countries (39.2%), while arrivals declined less for CIS countries (-8.3%). However, purchases decreased for other countries (13.1%). On the other hand, exports grew by 23.7% to USD 409.2 million, supported by higher sales to CIS countries (37.7%), while shipments moderated for EU countries (19%) and other countries (34.3%). Considering the January-October period, the country’s trade gap widened to USD 5,808.9 million from USD 4,456.3 million recorded in the same period of the previous year.

Moldova posted a trade deficit of USD 591.6 million in September 2025, widening from USD 492.7 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. Exports rose by 23.1% year-on-year to USD 345.4 million, supported by higher sales to EU countries (19.1%), CIS countries (26.9%), and other countries (36.6%). On the other hand, imports grew by 21.2% to USD 937.0 million, driven by increased purchases from EU countries (24.2%) and other countries (21%). However, purchases from CIS countries declined (-13.4%). For the first nine months of the year, the country’s trade gap widened to USD 5,222.5 million, from USD 3,995.2 million recorded in the same period of the previous year.
