Mauritius Inflation Rate Quickens to 5-Month High of 4.5%

The annual inflation rate in Mauritius inched up to 4.5% in December 2025, the highest since August, from 4% in the previous month.

Main upward pressure came from prices of insurance and financial services (13.3% vs 13.3% in November); restaurants & hotels (11.5% vs 11.1%); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (8.9% vs 8.8%); health (7.7% vs 7.8%); education (6.7% vs 6.7%) and furnishings & household equipment (5.1% vs 4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were flat, after increasing by 0.3% in the prior month.

Mauritius Inflation Rate Cools Down to 9-Month Low
The annual inflation rate in Mauritius fell to 3.9% in January 2026, the softest since April last year, from 4.5% in December. Price growth slowed primarily for insurance and financial services (6.5% vs 13.3% in december); furnishings & household equipment (1.7% vs 5.1%); clothing & footwear (2.1% vs 2.6%) and food & non-alcoholic beverages (0.9% vs 1.4%). On the other hand, faster increases were seen for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (9.2% vs 8.9%) and transportation (5% vs 3.9%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.8% in January, the most in a year, after being flat in the prior month.

Mauritius Inflation Rate Hits 7-Month Low of 4%
The annual inflation rate in Mauritius eased further to 4% in November 2025, the lowest since April, from 4.1% in October, marking the fifth straight month of slowing price growth. Price-growth moderated primarily for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (8.8% vs 9.6% in October) and transportation (2% vs 3.5%), while remaining steady for education (at 6.7%); furnishings & household equipment (at 4%) and clothing & footwear (at 2.5%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.3% in November, after being flat in the previous month.
