Mauritius Industrial Output Growth Accelerates

Industrial production in Mauritius increased by 1.7% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, marking a third consecutive quarter of growth and accelerating from an upwardly revised 1.5% expansion in the last quarter of 2025.

Increases were recorded across most sub-sectors, led by electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (+8.8%), followed by water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (+2.3%), and manufacturing (+1.0%).

In contrast, mining and quarrying contracted by 2.3%.

On a quarterly basis, however, industrial production fell 18.2%, largely reflecting declines in manufacturing (-22.8%) and mining and quarrying (-20.6%).

These losses were partly offset by increases in electricity, gas, steam & air conditioning supply (25.7%) and water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (2.6%).

Mauritius Industrial Output Rises 1.3% in Q4
Industrial production in Mauritius increased by 1.3% year-on-year in Q4 2025, picking up from an upwardly revised 1.2% rise in Q3. The expansion was driven by gains across all major sub-sectors, including manufacturing (+1.4%), electricity, gas, steam & air conditioning supply (+1.2%), mining and quarrying (+1.1%), and water supply and waste management (+1.1%). On a quarterly basis, the industrial production index rose sharply by 14.2%, supported by strong rebounds in electricity (+19.5%) and manufacturing (+14.7%), although mining and quarrying declined by 5.9%. For the full year, industrial production increased by 1.7%, led by growth in electricity (+4.7%) and manufacturing (+1.4%).

Mauritius Industrial Output Growth Slows in Q2
Industrial production in Mauritius grew by 1.7% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, slowing from a seven-quarter high of 2.6% in the previous period. The downturn was mainly due to a decline in the output of mining and quarrying (-2.4% vs 2.2% in Q1). Additionally, production growth moderated in the manufacturing sector (1.5% vs 1.8%) and electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (5.4% vs 8.9%). On the other hand, activity accelerated for water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation (1% vs 0.1%). On a quarterly basis, industrial output increased by 5% in Q2 2025, rebounding from an 18.3% drop in the preceding period.
