Industrial production in Mauritius increased by 1.7% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, marking a third consecutive quarter of growth and accelerating from an upwardly revised 1.5% expansion in the last quarter of 2025.
Increases were recorded across most sub-sectors, led by electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (+8.8%), followed by water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (+2.3%), and manufacturing (+1.0%).
In contrast, mining and quarrying contracted by 2.3%.
On a quarterly basis, however, industrial production fell 18.2%, largely reflecting declines in manufacturing (-22.8%) and mining and quarrying (-20.6%).
These losses were partly offset by increases in electricity, gas, steam & air conditioning supply (25.7%) and water supply; sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (2.6%).
