Mauritius Industrial Output Growth Hits 7-Quarter High

Industrial production in Mauritius rose by 2.6% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2025, marking the highest since Q2 2023 and accelerating from a 1.5% growth in the previous period, driven by accelerated output growth in electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (8.9% vs. 1.6% in Q4 2024) and manufacturing (1.8% vs. 1.4%).

Conversely, growth slowed in mining and quarrying (2.2% vs. 9%) and water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation (0.1% vs. 1.1%).

On a quarterly basis, industrial production decreased by 18.3% in Q1 2025, reversing from a 14.0% expansion in Q4 2024.

Industrial production in Mauritius grew by 1.7% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2025, slowing from a seven-quarter high of 2.6% in the previous period. The downturn was mainly due to a decline in the output of mining and quarrying (-2.4% vs 2.2% in Q1). Additionally, production growth moderated in the manufacturing sector (1.5% vs 1.8%) and electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (5.4% vs 8.9%). On the other hand, activity accelerated for water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation (1% vs 0.1%). On a quarterly basis, industrial output increased by 5% in Q2 2025, rebounding from an 18.3% drop in the preceding period.

Industrial production in Mauritius rose by 1.5% year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2024, following a downwardly revised 1.7% growth in the previous period. Output growth slowed across all categories: manufacturing (1.3% vs. 1.5% in Q3), electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply (1.6% vs. 1.7%), water supply, sewerage, waste management, and remediation (1.1% vs. 2.3%), and mining and quarrying (9.0% vs. 13.3%). On a quarterly basis, industrial production increased by 14.1% in the fourth quarter, following a 4.2% expansion in the previous three-month period.
