Malta Producer Inflation Steady for 3 Months

Producer prices in Malta increased 1.5% year-on-year in July 2026, matching the reading of the previous two months and remaining at their highest level since October 2023. Energy prices remained unchanged from the previous month. Meanwhile, prices for intermediate goods rose at a slower pace (1.6% vs 2.7%), while growth accelerated for capital goods (5.5% vs 5.0%). Consumer goods inflation also rose to 0.7% after being unchanged in the previous month, with durable consumer goods steady at 0.1% and non-durable consumer goods increasing 0.7% after stagnating last month. By market, producer inflation for the domestic market edged up (1.1% vs 1.0%), while it edged down for the non-domestic market (1.9% vs 2.1%). On a monthly basis, producer prices inched higher to 0.3% in July from a 0.2% increase in June, marking the highest since February.

By market, producer inflation accelerated for both the domestic market (1.0% vs. 0.9%) and the non-domestic market (2.1% vs. 2.0%), although growth for exports to the Euro Area eased slightly (3.3% vs. 3.4%) while that for non-Euro Area markets picked up (1.0% vs. 0.8%). On a monthly basis, producer prices were unchanged in June, after rising 1.2% in the previous month.

Producer prices in Malta rose 1.4% year-on-year in May 2026, the highest since October 2023, following a 0.9% increase in April. Inflation accelerated for capital goods (5.1% vs 3.2% in April), and intermediate goods (2.9% vs 2%). On the other hand, a decline of 0.6% was registered in consumer goods. No price change occurred in the energy sector. Non-domestic prices increased by 1.9%. The prices of goods destined for the Euro Area went up by 3.5%, while those destined for the non-Euro Area increased by 0.6%. On a monthly basis, producer prices increased 0.2%.
