Malta's industrial production increased by a meager 0.1 percent year-on-year in December of 2017, from an upwardly revised 0.6 percent gain in the prior month. Output continued to grow for capital goods (12.5 percent vs 5.8 percent in November) and energy (2.9 percent vs 2.2 percent). Meanwhile, production tumbled for consumer goods (-2.4 percent vs 4.2 percent), as an increase in durable goods (10.7 percent vs -0.4 percent) was partly offset by a decline in non-durable goods (-4 percent vs 4.6 percent); and for intermediate goods (-6.8 percent vs 6.3 percent). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial activity advanced 0.9 percent, after a downwardly revised 2.3 percent rise in November.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices decreased 0.1 percent, after a 2.3 percent drop in the prior month.
