Considering the first quarter of this year, the trade deficit rose to EUR 1,278.5 million from EUR 638.3 million in the corresponding period of 2018.

It was the biggest decline in industrial activity since September of 2018, as output dropped sharply for capital goods (-6.5 percent from 2 percent in February) and consumer goods (-8 percent from 4.6 percent), particularly non-durable consumer goods (-8.9 percent from 5.1 percent). On the other hand, production rebounded for energy (17.7 percent from -6.6 percent) and durable consumer goods (6.8 percent from -2.2 percent). On a monthly basis, industrial output decreased by 3.5 percent, after showing no growth in February.

On a monthly basis, producer prices inched up 1.74 percent, following a 0.23 percent decrease in the prior month.
