Malta Industrial Production Eases in May

Industrial production in Malta increased 0.8% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from a revised 6.2% growth in the previous month.
Output in the manufacturing sector slowed (1.1% vs. 6.9% in April), weighed down particularly by declines in other manufacturing (-11.4%), rubber, plastic, and other non-metallic mineral products (-7.6%), and food products and beverages (-5.9%).
Among the main industrial groupings, output declined for consumer goods (-0.6% vs. 6.4%) and consumer non-durable goods (-2.3% vs. 6.8%), while it fell further for capital goods (-7.7% vs. -0.6%).
At the same time, production growth moderated for intermediate goods (8.2% vs. 11.5%), while energy output fell at a softer pace (-6.8% vs. -9.2%).
In contrast, output accelerated for consumer durable goods (15.1% vs. 3.1%).
On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial activity decreased 3.7% in May, reversing a revised 3.5% growth in April.
