Macau Inflation Rate Slows in July

Macau’s annual inflation rate eased to 1.12% in July 2026, slowing for a second consecutive month and down from 1.24% in June.

The slowdown was mainly driven by softer price growth for food (1.22% vs 1.31%), transport (2.29% vs 3.71%), and housing and utilities (0.79% vs 0.81%).

Additional downward pressure came from clothing and footwear (2.61% vs 3.17%) and recreation, sport and culture (1.07% vs 1.45%).

Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco also fell 1.28%, reversing a 0.09% increase in June.

In contrast, inflation accelerated for health (0.94% vs 0.87%), information and communication (1.44% vs 1.17%), and education (1.17% vs 1.05%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices were largely unchanged, edging down 0.01% after a 0.15% decline in June.

The annual inflation rate in Macau eased to 1.24% in June 2026 from an over two-year high of 1.43% in the previous month. The slowdown was mainly driven by softer inflation in transport (3.71% vs 4.79%), miscellaneous goods and services (2.36% vs 3.56%), housing and fuels (0.39% vs 0.59%), and health (0.87% vs 0.89%). Meanwhile, price growth accelerated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.31% vs 1.19%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.09% vs -0.46%), clothing and footwear (3.17% vs 2.91%), household furnishings and services (0.81% vs 0.76%), information and communication (1.17% vs 1.06%), and recreation, sport and culture (1.45% vs 1.24%), while education inflation remained unchanged (1.05% vs 1.05%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.15% in June, reversing a 0.17% increase in the previous month and marking the second monthly contraction of 2026, after March's decline.

Macau Inflation Rate Hits Over 2-Year High
The annual inflation rate in Macau rose to 1.43% in May 2026 from 1.21% in the previous month, marking its highest level since February 2024. Price increases were recorded across several categories, including housing and utilities (0.59% vs 0.33% in April), food and non-alcoholic beverages (1.19% vs 1.11%), transport (4.79% vs 3.97%), recreation, sport, and culture (1.24% vs 1.03%), information and communication (1.06% vs 0.55%), clothing and footwear (2.91% vs 2.33%), and health (0.89% vs 0.70%). Meanwhile, prices edged lower in household furnishings and services (0.76% vs 0.78%) and miscellaneous goods and services (3.56% vs 3.61%), while education remained steady at 1.05%. Costs for alcoholic beverages and tobacco fell to 0.46% after remaining unchanged in the previous month. On a monthly basis, consumer prices eased to 0.17% in May after recording a 0.31% increase in April.
