Lithuania Retail Sales Growth Slows in August

Retail sales in Lithuania increased by 3.7% year-on-year in August, slowing from a 6.0% rise in July and lowest since February 2026.
This marked the weakest growth in several months, as sales moderated in retail trade excluding automotive fuel (5.7% vs. 8.2% in July) and non-food products (9.2% vs. 12.3%), particularly pharmaceuticals, medical goods and cosmetics (8.2% vs. 15.8%), and textiles, clothing, and footwear (10.0% vs. 10.7%).
Moreover, retail sales via mail-order houses or the internet slowed to 3.2% (vs. 7.0%), while sales of food, beverages, and tobacco eased to 0.8% (vs. 2.6%).
In contrast, sales of information and communication equipment, cultural and recreation goods, watches, and jewelry accelerated to 6.6% (vs. 0.7%), while automotive fuel sales returned to growth, rising by 3.3% following a 2.3% decline in July.
On a monthly basis, retail sales edged up by 0.1% in August, following a 0.8% increase in July.
