Lithuania Retail Sales Growth Slows in May

Retail sales in Lithuania rose 7.4% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from an upwardly revised 9.8% in the previous month.

Sales growth moderated across several categories, including retail trade excluding automotive fuel (10.2% vs. 12.5% in April), non-food products (15.3% vs. 20.7%), audio, video, hardware, furniture and lighting (18% vs. 23.9%), information and communication equipment, cultural and recreation goods, watches, jewellery and other new goods (5.7% vs. 9.1%), pharmaceuticals, medical goods and cosmetics (10.9% vs. 14%), and sales via mail order houses or the Internet (22% vs. 36.8%).

At the same time, sales of automotive fuel declined further (-3.5% vs. -0.6%).

On the other hand, sales accelerated for food, beverages and tobacco (3% vs. 1.6%) and textiles, clothing and footwear (12.3% vs. 7.9%).

On a monthly basis, retail sales fell 0.7% in May, reversing a revised 2.4% increase in April and marking the weakest growth since February.

Lithuania Retail Sales Growth at 3-Month High
Retail sales in Lithuania rose 8.9% year-on-year in April 2026 from an upwardly revised 6.7% in the previous month and marking the strongest growth since January. Sales growth accelerated in retail trade excluding automotive fuel (11.4% vs. 6.8% in March), non-food products (18.8% vs. 10.1%), mail-order and internet sales (34.6% vs. 21.1%), and non-specialized stores (25.2% vs. 18.3%). In specialized stores, retail activity also expanded for textiles, clothing, and footwear (7.6% vs. 6.1%), audio, video, hardware, furniture, and lighting (21.1% vs. 7.1%), information and communication goods (7.2% vs. 2.4%), and pharmaceuticals, medical goods, and cosmetics (13.1% vs. 9.0%). In contrast, sales growth slowed for food, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco (1.5% vs. 2.2%), while automotive fuel sales declined (-0.9% vs. 6.6%). On a monthly basis, retail activity eased 1.8% in April from an upwardly revised 3.7% in the previous period.

Lithuania Retail Sales Rise in March
Retail sales in Lithuania rose by 5.7% year-on-year in March 2026 from an upwardly revised 2.9% in the previous month. Growth rebounded in food, alcoholic beverages and tobacco (1.9% vs -0.3% in February), while retail trade excluding automotive fuel continued to expand (5.5% vs 2.3%), alongside mail order and internet sales (21.2% vs 20.8%), automotive fuel (6.5% vs 5.4%), and non-food products (8.1% vs 4.3%). Within specialised non-food stores, sales also improved in audio, video, hardware, furniture and lighting (2.8% vs -8.3%), information and communication equipment, cultural and recreational goods, watches and jewellery, and other new goods (0.2% vs -0.7%), textiles, clothing and footwear (1.9% vs 0.5%), as well as pharmaceuticals, medical goods and cosmetics (9.4% vs 6.7%). On a monthly basis, retail activity rose 2.3% in March, rebounding from a revised 2% decline in February.
