Lithuania Retail Sales Rise the Most Since 2022

Retail sales in Lithuania advanced 9.3% year-on-year in January 2026, following a 2.4% rise in the previous month.

This marked the highest reading since February 2022, as activity rose in food, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco (2.8% vs 1.9%), non-food products (10.2% vs 7.2%), and pharmaceutical, medical goods, and cosmetics (10.6% vs 7.1%).

At the same time, trade rebounded sharply in sales of automotive fuel (19.3% vs -7.7%).

On the other hand, sales growth slowed in audio, video, hardware, furniture, and lighting in specialized stores (1.4% vs 1.6%), while it contracted further in sales of information and communication equipment, cultural and recreation goods, watches and jewellery, and other new goods in specialized stores (-1.7% vs 1.4%).

On a monthly basis, retail sales rose by 0.5% in January from 0.4% in the preceding period.

Lithuania Retail Sales Rise the Least in 7 Months
Retail sales in Lithuania increased by 2.4% year-on-year in December 2025, easing from an upwardly revised 3.5% rise in the previous month. This was the smallest increase since May, as growth in non-food sales slowed further (7.2% vs 8.2% in November) and sales of automotive fuel fell more sharply (-7.7% vs -3.9%). Within the non-food segment, a notable slowdown was recorded in sales of information and communication equipment, cultural and recreation goods, watches and jewellery, and other new goods in specialised stores (1.4% vs 5.3%) and audio, video, hardware, furniture, and lighting in specialised stores (1.6% vs 2.8%). Meanwhile, sales of food, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco continued to rise (1.9% vs 1.5%). On a monthly basis, retail sales rose by 0.4% in December, following an upwardly revised 0.9% gain in November. For the full year of 2025, retail sales were 3.5% higher than in 2024.

Lithuania Retail Sales Growth Eases in November
Retail sales in Lithuania rose by 3.3% year-on-year in November 2025, easing from a downwardly revised 3.8% gain in the previous month. This marked the softest growth since May, as activity moderated for non-food products (7.9% vs 10.3% in October), other non-specialised stores (37.7% vs 39.3%), and mail order, telephone, or internet (16.4% vs 28.6%). On the other hand, sales increased for food, beverages, and tobacco (1.4% vs 1.1%), non-specialized stores (1.3% vs 1.1%), and audio and video equipment (3.2% vs 2%), while activity declined softer for automotive fuel (-3.9% vs -4.4%). On a monthly basis, retail sales grew by 0.8% in November, following a downwardly revised 0.2% growth in the preceding period.
