Lithuania Current Account Shifts to Surplus

Lithuania’s current account posted a surplus of EUR 88 million in July 2026, shifting from a deficit of EUR 324.8 million in the corresponding month a year earlier. The services account surplus increased to EUR 1,097.8 million from EUR 806.5 million in July 2025, while the secondary income account surplus also rose to EUR 44.1 million from EUR 30.3 million. At the same time, the goods account deficit narrowed to EUR 707 million from EUR 910.9 million over the same period. In contrast, the primary income account deficit widened to EUR 347 million from EUR 250.7 million, partly offsetting the improvements in the other accounts.

Lithuania’s current account surplus widened sharply to EUR 437.5 million in June 2026 from EUR 191.5 million in the same month a year earlier. The services account surplus increased to EUR 985.4 million from EUR 791.9 million, while the secondary income account shifted to a EUR 346.5 million surplus from a deficit of EUR 17.9 million. On the other hand, the goods account deficit widened to EUR 695.1 million from EUR 408.5 million, driven largely by a larger increase in imports, which rose by EUR 824.7 million to EUR 4,175.1 million, compared with a EUR 538.1 million increase in exports to EUR 3,480 million. The primary income deficit also rose to EUR 199.4 million from EUR 174 million a year ago.

Lithuania’s current account deficit widened sharply to EUR 267.84 million in May 2026 from EUR 22.12 million in the same month a year earlier. This marked the largest shortfall since July 2025, as the goods account deficit widened to EUR 859.50 million from EUR 632.28 million. At the same time, the primary income deficit increased to EUR 424.64 million from EUR 336.57 million, while the secondary income surplus narrowed to EUR 37.11 million from EUR 59.52 million a year earlier. Meanwhile, the services account surplus expanded to EUR 979.19 million from EUR 887.21 million.
