Lithuania Current Account Shifts to Surplus

Lithuania’s current account posted a surplus of EUR 96.15 million in April 2026, shifting from a deficit of EUR 108.31 million in the same month a year earlier.

The improvement was largely driven by a wider surplus in the services account, which increased to EUR 1,033.79 million from EUR 851.23 million, while the secondary income surplus also rose to EUR 70.54 million from EUR 23.07 million.

In addition, the goods account deficit narrowed to EUR 589.45 million from EUR 605.58 million.

Meanwhile, the primary income account remained in deficit, with the shortfall widening to EUR 418.73 million from EUR 377.03 million a year earlier.

Lithuania’s current account deficit widened sharply to EUR 267.84 million in May 2026 from EUR 22.12 million in the same month a year earlier. This marked the largest shortfall since July 2025, as the goods account deficit widened to EUR 859.50 million from EUR 632.28 million. At the same time, the primary income deficit increased to EUR 424.64 million from EUR 336.57 million, while the secondary income surplus narrowed to EUR 37.11 million from EUR 59.52 million a year earlier. Meanwhile, the services account surplus expanded to EUR 979.19 million from EUR 887.21 million.

Lithuania Current Account Surplus at 18-Month High
Lithuania’s current account surplus widened sharply to EUR 497.20 million in March 2026, up from EUR 62.01 million in the same month of the previous year. This marked the largest surplus since September 2024, driven by an expansion in the services account surplus, which rose to EUR 967.42 million from EUR 916.29 million, and an increase in the secondary income surplus to EUR 169.96 million from EUR 40.11 million in March 2025. Additionally, the goods account deficit narrowed to EUR 562.20 million from EUR 755.88 million, while the primary income deficit also decreased significantly to EUR 77.98 million from EUR 138.51 million.
