Israel Jobless Rate Edges Down

Israel’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 2.8% in August 2026 from 3.1% in July. The number of unemployed declined by 17.2 thousand from the previous month and by 7 thousand from a year earlier to 131 thousand. Meanwhile, the employment rate fell to 60% as the number of employed persons declined by 1.4 thousand to 4,397.3 thousand, although the employed population increased by 6.319 thousand from a year earlier. The labor force participation rate edged lower to 61.8%. The non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate also declined, reaching 2.9% from 3.3% in July.

Israel’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate climbed to 3.1% in July 2026 from 2.9% in June, reaching its highest reading since January. The number of unemployed people increased by 20.2 thousand from the previous month and by 5.7 thousand from a year earlier to 148.2 thousand. Meanwhile, employment rose by 11.1 thousand month-on-month and 42.2 thousand year-on-year to 4.399 million. The labor force participation rate edged up to 62.2% from 62.0%, while the employment rate rose to 60.3% from 60.2%. The non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate also increased, reaching 3.3% from 2.8% in June.

The labor force participation rate increased to 61.9% from 61.7%, indicating a modest rise in workforce activity, with the employment rate also rose, to 60.2% from 59.9%. Meanwhile, the non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate eased to 2.8% from 2.9%, with a slight decline in the number of unemployed persons to 128 thousand from 128.1 thousand. Employment also strengthened, with the number of employed persons rising to 4.388 million from 4.381 million.
