Danish Retail Sales Hit 4-Month Low

Retail sales in Denmark rose by 3.3% year-on-year in December 2025, slowing from an upwardly revised 4.9% increase in the previous month.

This marked the weakest annual growth since August, as sales moderated notably in both clothing (0.7% vs 4.6% in November) and other consumer goods (6.4% vs 8.3%).

In addition, sales of food and other groceries slipped (-0.3% vs 0.1%).

However, despite the December declines across all three sub-components, quarterly increases were recorded in each category: other consumer goods rose by 2.7%, food and other daily necessities increased by 1.1%, and clothing posted a smaller gain of 0.1%.

On a monthly basis, retail sales fell by 1.2%, reversing an upwardly revised 1.7% rise in the previous month and marking the first fall since June 2025.

Danish Retail Sales Growth Softens in November
Retail sales in Denmark rose by 4.7% year-on-year in November 2025, easing from a six-month high 4.9% increase in the previous month. The slowdown was mainly driven by a decline in sales of food and other groceries (-0.3% vs 1.0% in October). At the same time, trade growth moderated for other consumer goods (8.2% vs 8.6%). On the other hand, activity advanced at a faster pace for clothing (4.4% vs 1.5%). On a monthly basis, retail sales went up by 1.5% in November, its strongest growth since February 2024, following an upwardly revised 1.0% increase in the preceding period.

Retail sales in Denmark increased by 4.9% year-on-year in October 2025, accelerating from an downwardly revised 3.3% gain in the previous month. It marked the strongest growth since April, as sales increased at a faster pace for other consumer goods (8.6% vs 7.6% in September). Additionally, sales rebounded for food and other groceries (0.9% vs -2%). Meanwhile, trade growth moderated for clothing (2.1% vs 4.5%). On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, retail activity increased by 0.9% in October, following a flat reading in the previous month.
