Croatia Retail Sales at 3-Month High

Retail sales in Croatia rose by 3.3% year-on-year in March 2026 from 3.1% in the previous month.

This marked the highest level since December 2025, as sales increased in non-food products excluding automotive fuels and lubricants (8% vs 6.5% in February).

At the same time, activity declined at a softer pace for automotive fuels and lubricants (-4.7% vs -8.7%).

In contrast, sales growth moderated for food, beverages, and tobacco (3.1% vs 5.8%), trade excluding automotive fuels and lubricants in specialized stores (4.6% vs 6.1%), and retail activity via the internet or mail order (4.9% vs 13%).

On a monthly basis, retail activity grew by 0.9% in March, rebounding from a 0.2% drop in the preceding period.

For the January-March period, retail sales increased by 3.1% compared with the same period a year earlier.

Retail sales in Croatia increased by 3.1% year-on-year in February 2026, up from 3% in the previous month. Sales activity rose for non-food products excluding automotive fuels and lubricants (6.5% vs 5.4% in January), trade excluding automotive fuels and lubricants in specialized stores (6.1% vs 5.6%), and retail activity via the internet or mail order (13% vs 7.8%). Meanwhile, growth in food, beverages, and tobacco slowed (5.8% vs 6.1%), while declines deepened in automotive fuels and lubricants (-8.7% vs -5.7%). For the first two months of 2026, retail sales increased by 3% compared with the same period a year earlier. On a monthly basis, retail activity fell 0.2% in February, easing from a 1.2% decline in the preceding period.

Croatia Retail Sales Growth Eases in January
Retail sales in Croatia eased to 3% year-on-year in January 2026 from a sixth-month-high 4.8% gain in the previous month. Sales growth slowed for non-food products (5.4% vs 5.6% in December 2025), while activity declined sharply for automotive fuels and lubricants (-5.7% vs 9.4%). Meanwhile, sales increased for food, beverages, and tobacco (6.1% vs 4%) and trade, excluding automotive fuels and lubricants (5.6% vs 4.9%). In addition, activity recovered for trade via the internet or mail order (7.8% vs -0.8%). On a monthly basis, retail activity grew by 1.2% in January, slowing from a 1.7% increase in the preceding period.
