The UniCredit Bank of Austria Manufacturing PMI rose to 55.9 in October 2026 from 54.9 in September, reaching its highest level since May 2022.
The recovery was driven by stronger demand, with total new orders increasing at the fastest pace since January 2022, supported by higher investment spending and a sharp rise in export business.
Output also expanded at its fastest pace in more than four and a half years, while rising backlogs of work prompted manufacturers to increase hiring for a third consecutive month.
Meanwhile, purchasing activity grew at its strongest rate in over four years.
On the price front, input cost inflation accelerated to its highest level since June, while supplier delivery delays worsened amid component shortages.
Output price inflation eased to a three-month low, although it remained elevated.
Looking ahead, business confidence edged higher, with manufacturers expecting larger order books and a sustained improvement in market conditions.
