Austria Logs Widest Current Account Surplus in 2 Years

Austria recorded a current account surplus of €7.33 billion in Q1 2026, the largest in two years, up from €6.62 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The services surplus rose to €5.82 billion from €5.41 billion, and the goods surplus climbed to €1.81 billion from €1.12 billion, with exports rising more than imports.
Notably, goods surpluses with the US and UK increased significantly, while the deficit with Germany narrowed, amid rising exports of machinery, vehicles, and chemicals.
However, the primary income surplus fell to €0.65 billion from €0.93 billion, and the secondary income deficit grew to €0.94 billion from €0.84 billion.
