Armenia Inflation Eases in July

The annual inflation rate in Armenia eased to 4.4% in August 2026 from 4.5% in the previous month, marking the lowest level since May. Price growth moderated for several categories, including food and non-alcoholic beverages (6.4% vs 7.4% in July), clothing and footwear (3.6% vs 3.9%), furnishings, household equipment and maintenance (2.5% vs 2.7%), and communication (0.6% vs 1.1%), while recreation and culture prices were unchanged after rising 0.1% in July. Meanwhile, prices increased faster for housing and utilities (1.4% vs 0.9%), health (3.5% vs 3.3%), miscellaneous goods and services (3.5% vs 3.3%), and restaurants and hotels (5% vs 4.9%). Transport costs also rebounded 2.4% after falling 1.2% in the previous month. Inflation held steady for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.5%) and education (8.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.2% in August, rebounding from a 1.4% decline in July and returning to inflation after three straight months of deflation.

Price growth moderated for housing and utilities (0.9% vs 1.2%), health (3.3% vs 3.5%), recreation and culture (0.1% vs 0.9%), and food and non-alcoholic beverages (7.4% vs 8.6%), while transport prices declined 1.2% after rising 1.6% in June. Meanwhile, inflation accelerated for miscellaneous goods and services (3.3% vs 2.4%), clothing and footwear (3.9% vs 3.0%), furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (2.7% vs 1.8%), and restaurants and hotels (4.9% vs 4.1%). At the same time, inflation was unchanged for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.5%), communication (1.1%), and education (8.3%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 1.4% in July, following a 0.5% decline in June, marking a third consecutive month of deflation after nine straight months of increases.

Costs rose for food and non-alcoholic beverages (8.6% vs. 6.4% in May), housing and utilities (1.2% vs. 1.1%), clothing and footwear (3.0% vs. 1.8%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (1.8% vs. 0.4%), and restaurants and hotels (4.1% vs. 3.8%). Meanwhile, inflation eased for transport (1.6% vs. 3.2%), health (3.5% vs. 3.7%), miscellaneous goods and services (2.4% vs 2.9%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.5% vs. 7.7%), communication (1.1.% vs. 1.2%), and recreation and culture (0.9% vs 1.6%), while it held steady for education at 8.3%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.5% in June, following a 0.8% decline in May and marking the second consecutive monthly drop after nine months of price growth.
