Exports went up by 21.8 percent to USD 198.1 million while imports increased by 12.2 percent to USD 335.7 million. Considering January to July 2017, the trade gap widened to USD 1,114.2 million from USD 858.9 million in the same period of 2016, as imports rose 26 percent to 2,497.4 million and exports went up 21.7 percent to USD 1,383.2 million.

Armenia's economic activity grew 2.4 percent year-on-year in August 2017, following a 7 percent expansion in the previous month and marking the weakest reading in the current sequence of growth starting from January. Output rose at a slower pace for both industry (10.9 percent from 14.3 percent in July) and services (15.5 percent from 17.2 percent), while increased further for retail trade (12.4 percent from 10.5 percent in June). In contrast, output contracted for both agriculture (-25 percent from -4.3 percent) and construction (-5.1 percent from -3.9 percent).

Armenia Inflation Rate at 0.90 percent  
Consumer prices in Armenia increased 0.9 percent year-on-year in August of 2017, the same pace as in the previous month. Prices rose less for food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.6 percent vs 3.3 percent in July) and recreation & culture (2 percent vs 2.7 percent), while advanced at the same pace for alcoholic beverages & tobacco (3.8 percent) and education (2.1 percent). Additional downward pressure came from: clothing & footwear (-2.9 percent vs -4.3 percent); housing & utilities (-3.1 percent vs -2.8 percent); furniture & household equipment (-4.3 percent vs -5.3 percent) and miscellaneous goods & services (-1.5 percent vs -1.2 percent). Meanwhile, cost accelerated for transport (6.1 percent vs 2.6 percent), restaurants & hotels (3.2 percent vs 3.1 percent) and health (1 percent after being flat in July). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 3 percent, following a 2.6 percent decrease in July.

Armenia Interest Rate at 6.00 percent  
The central bank of Armenia left its benchmark interest rate unchanged for the sixth consecutive time at 6% on August 15th. Policymakers noted that annual inflation was 1.1% in June, slightly above than expected, but it dropped slightly to 0.9 percent in July. Meantime, are not expected significant inflationary pressures in the coming months, so that inflation will gradually increase. In case of deviation risks from the perspectives of economic development and inflation trajectory, the central bank will clarify monetary policy directions in the medium term by ensuring inflation targeting. Consumer prices increased 0.9 percent year-on-year in July of 2017, easing from a 1.1 percent rise in June.
