Vietnam Tourist Arrivals at 7-Month Low

International arrivals to Vietnam rose 16.5% year-on-year to a seven-month low of 1.78 million in May 2026, following a 22.8% surge in the previous month.

Despite the moderation, growth remained broad-based across key source markets.

Visitors from Asia, Vietnam's largest tourism market, increased 9.7%, supported by growth from China (8.9%), Japan (18.7%), Taiwan (12.6%), Malaysia (17.3%), and Thailand (9.0%).

Arrivals from the Americas climbed 18.5%, underpinned by stronger visitor numbers from the United States (16.4%) and Canada (31.4%).

Meanwhile, arrivals from Europe surged 64.0%, led by a sharp increase in visitors from Russia (159.8%), alongside growth from the United Kingdom (10.3%) and France (21.8%).

Visitor numbers from Australia rose 30.4%, while arrivals from Africa increased 19.0%.

In the first five months of 2026, international arrivals to Vietnam totaled 10.57 million, up 14.9% from the same period a year earlier.

International arrivals to Vietnam jumped 22.8% year-on-year to 2.03 million in April 2026, sharply building up from a 1.3% increase in the previous month. Visitors from Asia rose 17.8%, supported by strong increases from China (22.1%), Japan (18.3%), Taiwan (7.0%), Malaysia (22.7%), Thailand (13.5%), and Singapore (28.6%). Arrivals from the U.S. climbed 27.8%, while those from Europe surged 46.1%, led by Russia (228.2%), alongside gains from the UK (6.1%), France (9.2%), and Germany (7.1%). Visitors from Australia increased 23.1%, and those from Africa edged up 6.0%. For the first four months of the year, international arrivals expanded 14.6% year-on-year to 8.79 million.

Vietnam Tourist Arrivals Up 1.3% YoY in March
International arrivals to Vietnam rose 1.3% year-on-year to 2.08 million in March 2026, marking a sharp slowdown from the 17.7% surge in the previous month. The sharp slowdown came amid rising fuel prices, prompting Vietnamese airlines to scale back operations. Visitors from Asia fell 6.6%, weighed by steep drops from China (-23.5%), South Korea (-5.3%), and Taiwan (-14.6%), despite gains from Japan (18.6%), Malaysia (34.7%), and Thailand (5.7%). By contrast, arrivals from America increased 18.9%, supported by the U.S. (18.5%) and Canada (27.0%), while European tourists jumped 34.7%, led by Russia (163.4%) alongside modest gains from the UK (3.0%), France (2.3%), and Germany (15.2%). Visitors from Australia rose 27.7%, and those from Africa grew 17.6%. For the first quarter as a whole, international arrivals climbed 12.4% year-on-year to 6.76 million.
