Vietnam Balance of Trade at 200.00 USD Million  
Vietnam's trade balance swung to a 200 USD million surplus in November of 2017 from 243 USD million deficit in the same month a year earlier, as exports increased more than imports. It was the fifth straight month of surplus in trade balance. In November, outbound shipments rose 19.2 percent from a year earlier to 19.2 USD billion, driven by higher sales of telephone and components (37.7 percent) and electronics and computers (28.7 percent). Imports grew by 15.8 percent to 19 USD billion. Considering January to November 2017, exports jumped 21.1 percent compared to the same period the prior year to 193.8 USD billion while imports surged 21 percent to 191 USD billion. In 2016, Vietnam posted a trade surplus of 2.8 USD billion, swinging from a 4 USD billion deficit in the prior year.

Sales went up at a slower pace for: goods (12.3 percent from 11.4 percent), accommodation & food (7.3 percent from 16.1 percent) and tourism (22.5 percent from 28 .1 percent). Meantime, sales of other services rose 11.3 percent, following a 11 percent rise in the prior month. Considering the January to November period, retail trade grew by 10.7 percent.

Vietnam Inflation Rate at 2.62 percent  
Consumer prices in Vietnam rose 2.62 percent year-on-year in November of 2017, compared to a 2.98 percent increase in a month earlier and reaching the lowest figure since July, as cost went up less for: transport (4.23 pct vs 5.21 pct in October); medicine (31.22 pct vs 32.13 pct); housing (4.63 pct vs 5.18 pct); culture; entertainment (0.71 pct vs 0.75 pct), and garments (0.96 pct vs 1.05 pct). Meantime, prices rose more for: food (2.78 pct vs 1.86 pct); beverages, tobacco (1.41 pct vs 1.40 pct), and education (7.29 pct vs 7,26 pct). On the other hand, inflation was steady for both household appliances (1.05 pct) and other goods & services (2.27 pct). In contrast, prices fell for posts and telecoms (-0.46 pct, the same pace as in October). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.13 percent, following a 0.41 percent increase in a month earlier.

Tourist arrivals in Vietnam jumped 25.2 percent year-on-year to 1.18 million in November of 2017 from 926.6 thousand in the same month a year earlier. Visitors from Asia went up by 30.6 percent, followed by those from Australia (18.2 percent), America (15.7 percent) and European countries (9.6 percent. Considering the January to November period, tourist arrivals soared 27.8 percent compared to the same period the preceding year to 11.6 million. For full 2017, the government aims to attract 13 million international visitors.

Vietnam's industrial production rose 17.2 percent from a year earlier in November of 2017, following a 17.0 percent rise in the previous month. It was the strongest growth in industrial output since January 2015, mainly boosted by a faster increase in the output of manufacturing output (24.3 percent from 22.3 percent in October). Meantime, mining production declined by 4.1 percent, after a 2.1 percent rise in a month earlier. Considering the first eleven months of the year, industrial production went up by 9.3 percent, faster than a 7.4 percent growth in the same period the preceding year.
