Vietnam Industrial Production at 9.40 percent  
Vietnam's industrial production rose by 9.4 percent from a year earlier in April of 2018, after a 8.7 percent growth in the previous month. It was the fastest increase in industrial output since January, mainly driven by a faster rise in manufacturing output (12.3 percent from 11.1 percent in March). Meantime, mining and quarrying continued to decline (-5 percent from -3.6 percent). Considering the first four months of 2018, industrial production grew by 11.4 percent from the same period the prior year, much higher than a 6.6 percent gain in the same period of 2017.

Consumer prices in Vietnam increased 2.75 percent year-on-year in April 2018, accelerating from a 2.66 percent gain in the previous month. Prices went up at a faster pace for both housing and construction materials (3.38 percent vs 2.96 percent in March) and transport (5.64 percent vs 2.97 percent). Inflation was steady for household appliances and goods (at 1.23 percent). Meanwhile, rose less than a month earlier for : food (4.50 percent vs 4.54 percent in March); garment, footwear, hat (1.41 percent vs 1.44 percent). Annual core inflation, which excludes volatile items, declined to 1.33 percent from 1.38 percent in March. On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.08 percent, following a 0.27 percent drop in March.
