Vietnam Retail Sales Rise 11.8% in May

Retail sales in Vietnam rose by 11.8% year-on-year in May 2026, following a 12.1% increase in the previous month.

Growth remained broadly based across key categories, with retail sales of goods, accounting for 75.9% of total activity, rising 11.3% (vs 12.2% in April).

Services-related segments also continued to outperform, with accommodation and food services as well as travel and tourism services both posting strong gains of 15.4%.

Other services increased by 10.8% from 9.4% in April.

For the first five months of the year, total retail sales expanded by 11.2% compared with the same period a year earlier.

Vietnam Retail Sales Growth Stays at 3-Year Peak
Retail sales in Vietnam rose 12.1% year-on-year in April 2026, matching March’s pace and remaining at the strongest growth since March 2023. Gains were broad-based across all components: retail goods eased slightly (12.2% vs 12.4% in March), accommodation and food services accelerated (14.1% vs 13.9%), tourism-related activities remained solid despite moderating (6.5% vs 11.5%), and other services picked up (9.4% vs 7.6%). For the first four months of the year, retail trade expanded 11.1% compared with the same period in 2025.

Vietnam Retail Sales Grow the Most in 3 Years
Retail sales in Vietnam rose 12.1% year-on-year in March 2026, accelerating from 8.5% in the previous month and marking the fastest growth since March 2023. The solid pickup was broad-based, led by retail goods (12.4% vs 8.8% in February) and accommodation and food services (13.9% vs 9.7%), while tourism-related activities remained strong (11.5%, though easing from 13.8%) and other services also improved (7.6% vs 4.4%). For the first three months of the year, retail trade increased 10.9% compared with the same period in 2025.
