Vietnam Industrial Output Growth Hits Six-Month High

Vietnam's industrial production expanded 14.5% year-on-year in July 2026, accelerating from an upwardly revised 12.9% increase in June and marking its strongest growth in six months, since January 2026.

The pickup was driven by faster growth in manufacturing and processing (15.0% vs. 12.8% in June) and water supply, waste management, and wastewater treatment (14.9% vs. 10.1%).

Meanwhile, growth in mining and quarrying was unchanged at 10.4%.

In contrast, electricity production and distribution growth eased to 12.5% from 15.2%.

On a monthly basis, industrial output rose 1.2%, signaling continued strength in the sector.

For the January-July period, industrial production increased 11.4% compared with the same period a year earlier.

The pickup was driven by faster growth across all major sectors, led by electricity and gas supply (16.6% vs 10.3% in May), manufacturing and processing (12.6% vs 10.7%), mining and quarrying (8.8% vs 4.0%), and water supply, waste management, and wastewater treatment (8.7% vs 6.2%). On a monthly basis, industrial output rose 3.5%, signaling continued strength in the sector. For the first half of 2026, industrial production increased 10.8% compared with the same period a year earlier, highlighting sustained momentum in Vietnam's industrial activity.

Vietnam’s industrial production grew 8.8% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 9.3% increase in the previous month. The moderation was mainly driven by slower growth in mining and quarrying (6.0% vs. 8.4% in April), electricity and gas supply (8.5% vs. 10.3%), and water supply, waste management, and wastewater treatment (8.7% vs. 16.5%). In contrast, manufacturing activity remained broadly stable, expanding 9.0% compared with 9.1% in April and continuing to underpin overall industrial growth. On a monthly basis, industrial output rose 3.3%, indicating sustained momentum in the sector. For the January–May period, industrial production increased 9.1% from the same period a year earlier, reflecting resilient industrial activity despite the slight slowdown in May.
