Vietnam Industrial Output Growth Slows

Vietnam’s industrial production grew 8.8% year-on-year in May 2026, easing from a downwardly revised 9.3% increase in the previous month.

The moderation was mainly driven by slower growth in mining and quarrying (6.0% vs. 8.4% in April), electricity and gas supply (8.5% vs. 10.3%), and water supply, waste management, and wastewater treatment (8.7% vs. 16.5%).

In contrast, manufacturing activity remained broadly stable, expanding 9.0% compared with 9.1% in April and continuing to underpin overall industrial growth.

On a monthly basis, industrial output rose 3.3%, indicating sustained momentum in the sector.

For the January–May period, industrial production increased 9.1% from the same period a year earlier, reflecting resilient industrial activity despite the slight slowdown in May.

Vietnam Industrial Output Growth at 3-Month High
Vietnam’s industrial production rose 9.9% year-on-year in April 2026, accelerating from an upwardly revised 7.2% growth in the previous month and marking the fastest pace since January. Output quickened across most sectors, led by mining and quarrying (7.6% vs 2.1% in March), manufacturing (10.0% vs 7.9%), and electricity and gas supply (10.9% vs 4.6%). In contrast, growth in water supply, waste management, and wastewater treatment eased (7.1% vs 11.2%).On a monthly basis, industrial output increased 3.0%. For the first four months of the year, industrial production gained 9.2% from the same period in 2025.

Vietnam Industrial Output Growth Quickens Strongly
Vietnam’s industrial production rose 6.9% year-on-year in March 2026, sharply picking up from an upwardly revised 0.6% gain in the previous month, driven by stronger activity as operations resumed after the Lunar New Year holiday. Output growth accelerated significantly in manufacturing (7.5% vs 1.2% in February) and water supply, waste management, and wastewater treatment (12.1% vs 1.0%). At the same time, activity rebounded in mining and quarrying (2.6% vs -4.0%) as well as in electricity and gas supply (4.6% vs -1.2%). On a monthly basis, industrial output surged 18.8%. For the first quarter of the year, industrial production rose 9.0% from the same period in 2025.
