Uganda Inflation Rate Softens to 8-Month Low

The annual inflation rate in Uganda eased for the second month to 3% in September 2024, the softest in eight months, down from 3.5% in the prior month.
Prices slowed down primarily for transportation (2.9% vs 5.4% in August); recreation & culture (7% vs 7.6%); alcoholic beverages, tobacco & narcotics (2.9% vs 4.1%) and furnishings & household equipment (2.7% vs 3.5%).
Additionally, prices fell further for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-1.5% vs -0.6%).
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose by 0.2% in September, the same pace as in the previous month.
