Tunisia's annual inflation rate accelerated for the first time in three months to 5.4% in August 2026, from July’s four-month low of 5.1%.
It was the highest inflation rate since May, with food & non-alcoholic beverages making the largest contribution to inflation, rising at the fastest pace in three months (7.5% vs 6.6% in July), mainly driven by higher prices for poultry, sheep meat, fruit, beef, and fresh fish.
Prices also rose at a faster pace for transportation (2.1% vs 2%), health (3.4% vs 2.7%), and restaurants & hotels (6.6% vs 6.5%), while clothing & footwear prices eased slightly (9.0% vs 9.1%).
Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes food and energy, inched up to 4.9% from 4.8% in July.
On a monthly basis, the CPI climbed by 0.5%, accelerating from a 0.2% rise in the previous month and marking the fastest increase in four months.
