Tunisia Inflation Rate Softens to 4-Month Low of 5.1%

Tunisia's annual inflation rate fell further to 5.1% in July 2026, the lowest since March, from 5.3% in the previous month. The moderation reflected slower price increases for food & non-alcholic beverages (6.6% vs 7.1% in June); transportation (2% vs 2.4%) and health (2.7% vs 2.9%). On the other hand, upward pressure came primarily from clothing & footwear (9.1% vs 9.1%) and restaurants & hotels (6.5% vs 6.3%). Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes food and energy, edged down to 4.8% from 4.9% in June. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.2%, the same pace as in the preceding month.

Tunisia's annual inflation rate eased to 5.3% in June 2026 from 5.5% in May, marking its lowest level in three months. The slowdown was mainly driven by softer price increases for food and beverages (7.1% vs. 8.2% in May). On the other hand, inflation accelerated for housing and utilities (4.3% vs. 4.2%), health (2.9% vs. 2.8%), transport (2.4% vs. 2.3%), and recreation and culture (4.4% vs. 4.3%). Meanwhile, core inflation, which excludes food and energy, edged up to 4.9% from 4.8%. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.2%, easing from a 0.3% increase in May, as higher clothing and footwear (1.7%) and restaurant and hotel prices (1.0%) were partly offset by a 0.9% decline in food and beverage prices.

Tunisia's inflation rate stood at 5.5% in May 2026, the highest in a year, matching the same level of April. Upward pressure continue to come mainly from food & non-alcoholic beverages (8.2% vs 8.2% in April); clothing & footwear (9.1% vs 9.3%) and restaurants & hotels (6.3% vs 6.2%). Prices also increased slightly faster for housing & utilities (4.2% vs 4.1%) and transportation (2.3% vs 2.2%). On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.3%, following a 1.1% advance in the prior month.
