It was the highest producer inflation rate since January of 2009, as prices rose faster for manufacturing (8.9 percent compared to 8.7 percent in May) and energy (3.6 percent compared to 2.8 percent). Additionally, cost of mining declined at a softer pace (-4.0 percent compared to -11.8 percent). On a monthly basis, producer prices went up 1.1 percent, after a 1.0 percent gain in the prior month.

The annual inflation rate in Tunisia was unchanged at 7.5 percent in August of 2018, the same as in the previous month. It remained the lowest inflation rate since February. Prices slowed for food & non-alcoholic beverages (7.0 percent compared to 8.3 percent in July); furniture & household equipment (8.9 percent compared to 9.0 percent); communications (1.1 percent compared to 1.2 percent); health (5.1 percent compared to 5.3 percent) and restaurants & hotels (9.5 percent compared to 9.8 percent). On the other hand, cost increased faster for housing & utilities (6.0 percent compared to 4.9 percent); transport (12.2 percent compared to 11 percent); clothing & footwear (7.4 percent compared to 6.7 percent) and miscellaneous good & services (11.8 percent compared to 11.1 percent). Additionally, inflation was steady for recreation & culture (at 8.9 percent, the same as in July). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.3 percent, easing from a 0.6 percent gain in July.
