The annual inflation rate in Tunisia rose to 7.5 percent in December of 2018 from 7.4 percent in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since August, as prices increased further for food & non-alcoholic beverages (6.2 percent from 6.0 percent in November); clothing & footwear (8.6 percent from 8.3 percent); miscellaneous goods & services (11.9 percent from 11.7 percent); and restaurant & hotels (10.0 percent from 9.6 percent). On the other hand, cost eased for transport (13.3 percent from 13.5 percent); furnishings & household equipment (9.3 percent from 9.4 percent); recreation & culture (7.5 percent from 7.8 percent); and education (8.0 percent from 8.1 percent). Additionally, inflation was steady for housing & utilities (6.1 percent, the same as in November); communication (1.0 percent); health (4.8 percent); and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (0.5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 0.5 percent, slowing from a 0.7 percent gain in the prior month.
