KOSPI Climbs on Defense and Shipbuilding Gains

The benchmark KOSPI climbed 2.78% to close at 4,221 on Monday, extending gains for the fourth consecutive session and hitting fresh record highs, driven largely by strength in defense and shipbuilding shares.
Hanwha Aerospace advanced 3.68% after reporting the third-quarter net income of KRW 712.2 billion, up 123.8% from a year earlier.
Revenue surged 146.5% to KRW 6.48 trillion, exceeding market expectations.
Samsung Heavy Industries also rose 0.68% following the announcement of its Q3 operating profit of KRW 238.1 billion, up 99% year-on-year.
Investor attention remained centered on the upcoming earnings reports of key defense and shipbuilding companies including Hyundai Rotem (+1.52%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (+5.33%), and HD Korea Shipbuilding (+3.27%).
In monetary developments, investor sentiment improved after the Bank of Korea extended its KRW 70 trillion currency swap with the People’s Bank of China for five more years, effective November 2025 to October 2030.
