Slovenia Unemployment Rate Falls in February

Slovenia’s unemployment rate edged down to 4.9% in February 2026 from 5% in the previous month.

The number of unemployed persons decreased 2,336 month-on-month to 45,760.

The unemployment rate for women was 5.2%, compared with 4.6% for men.

By age group, unemployment stood at 7.4% for those aged 15-29, 5% for those 50 and older, and 6.1% for those 55 and above.

For comparison, the jobless rate was 4.9% in February of the previous year.

Meanwhile, employers reported 11,713 job vacancies, 4.7% fewer than a year ago, and 23,665 openings over the first two months of 2026, lower by 6.9% from the same period last year.

Slovenia’s unemployment rate rose to 4.8% in December 2025 from 4.6% in the previous two months, marking the highest level since February. The number of unemployed persons increased by 1,381 month-on-month to 47,177. Unemployed men totaled 24,574, while women accounted for 22,603. By age group, unemployment stood at 7.7% for those aged 15–29, 4.8% for those aged 50 and older, and 5.8% for those aged 55 and above. For comparison, the jobless rate was 4.8% in December of the previous year. Meanwhile, employers reported 9,489 job vacancies, down 3.3% year-on-year, and 157,803 vacancies for the full year, up slightly from 157,384 in the same period last year.

This remained the highest level since March, as the number of unemployed persons rose by 126 month-over-month to 45,796. The unemployment rate for women was 5.0%, compared with 4.3% for men. By age group, unemployment stood at 7.5% for those aged 15–29, 4.6% for those 50 and older, and 5.7% for those 55 and above. For comparison, the jobless rate was 4.6% in November of the previous year. Meanwhile, employers reported 10,641 job vacancies, 9.0% fewer than a year ago, and 142,314 openings over the first eleven months of 2025, lower by 3.6% from the same period last year.
