Singapore’s bank loans surged to a fresh record high of SGD 978.8 billion in September 2026 from SGD 966.4 billion in the previous month.
Loans to businesses rose to SGD 591.4 billion, driven largely by higher loans for building and construction (SGD 192.2 billion vs SGD 191.0 billion in August), general commerce (SGD 108.0 billion vs SGD 102.6 billion), and financial and insurance activities (SGD 157.3 billion vs SGD 153.7 billion).
In contrast, lending decreased for agriculture, mining, and quarrying (SGD 4.6 billion vs SGD 4.7 billion), manufacturing (SGD 28.2 billion vs SGD 30.4 billion) and transport, storage, and communication (SGD 51.8 billion vs SGD 51.9 billion).
Meanwhile, consumer loans increased to SGD 387.4 billion from SGD 384.4 billion, lifted by higher housing and bridging loans (SGD 258.4 billion vs SGD 256.6 billion), car loans (SGD 10.6 billion vs SGD 10.3 billion), and credit card loans (SGD 18.2 billion vs SGD 18.0 billion).
