Singapore Food Prices Ease

Food prices in Singapore rose by 1.5% year-on-year in January 2024, a slowdown from the 2.5% increase seen in the previous month, marking the most modest rise since August 2021.

The latest result uses 2024 as the base year.

Within food, excluding food servicing services, prices rose for rice & cereal products (2.8%), fish & other seafood (0.7%), oils & fats (5.6%), fruits & nuts (7.7%), vegetables (2.7%), sugar, confectionery, and desserts (1.4%), ready-made food & other food products (1.6%), and non-alcoholic beverages (1.0%); but fell for meat (-0.1%) and milk, other dairy products & eggs (-0.4%).

Among food servicing services, prices increased for all components: restaurants, cafes & pubs (1.3%), fast food restaurants (0.8%), hawker food and food courts (1.1%), and catered food, including vending machines (0.9%).

Within food, excluding food servicing services, prices increased for rice & cereal products (0.9%), meat (1.0%), fish & other seafood (0.2%),, milk, other dairy products & eggs (0.2%), oils & fats (3.3%), sugar, confectionery, and desserts (4.4%), ready-made food & other food products (0.3%), and non-alcoholic beverages (4.3%); but fell for fruits & nuts (-0.5%) and vegetables (-0.5%). Among food servicing services, prices were higher for all components: restaurants, cafes & pubs (1.1%), fast food restaurants (2.0%), and hawker food and food courts (1.5%), while catered food, including vending machines remained unchanged.

Food prices in Singapore increased by 1.4% year-on-year in April 2025, following a 1.3% gain in the previous month, marking the highest inflation since January. Within food, excluding food serving services, prices rose for all categories: rice & cereal products (2.4%), fish & other seafood (0.3%), oils & fats (1.9%), fruits & nuts (7.8%), vegetables (1.2%), sugar, confectionery, and desserts (0.6%), ready-made food & other food products (1.0%), and non-alcoholic beverages (3.9%), meat (0.9%) and milk, other dairy products & eggs (1.1%). Among food & beverage serving services, prices increased for most components: restaurants, cafes & pubs (0.9%), fast food restaurants (1.9%), hawker food and food courts (1.2%), while prices of catered food, including vending machines, were flat.
