Seychelles Inflation Rebounds in May

Consumer prices in Seychelles rose by 0.29% year-on-year in May 2026, rebounding from a 0.01% decline in April and marking the strongest annual increase since February.

The pickup was driven by higher non-food prices, which accelerated to 0.40% from 0.12% in April, while fish (-0.85% vs -6.11%) and other food costs (-0.39% vs -0.22%) declined.

Within the non-food sector, the largest annual price gains were recorded in alcoholic beverages (4.45% vs 4.55%), restaurants and hotels (2.58%, unchanged), transport (2.31% vs 1.42%), and miscellaneous goods and services (0.61% vs 0.68%).

Among food categories excluding fresh fish, prices continued to fall for milk, cheese and eggs (-7.38% vs -6.95% in April), fruits (-3.35% vs -2.04%), and sugar, jam, honey and confectionery (-1.68% vs -1.20%).

Meanwhile, prices increased for oils and fats (4.43% vs 5.96%) and vegetables (4.35% vs 3.93%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased by 0.15% in May, reversing a 0.09% decline in April.

Consumer prices in Seychelles edged down by 0.01% in April 2026, reversing a 0.24% increase in the previous month. This marked the first decline since December 2025, largely driven by cost declines for fresh fish (-6.11% vs -0.56% in March) and other foods (-0.22% vs 0.61%), while prices continued to increase for non-food products (0.12% vs 0.20%). Among food items excluding fish, costs declined mainly for milk, cheese and eggs (-6.95% vs -5.47%), fruits (-2.04% vs 0.23%), and sugar, jam, honey and confectionery (-1.2% vs -1.75%). Among non-food products, prices particularly increased for alcoholic beverages (4.55% vs 4.34%), transport (1.42% vs 0.19%), and restaurants and hotels (2.58% vs 2.98%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell by 0.09% in April, the third straight month of decline, following a 0.04% loss in the preceding period.

Seychelles Inflation Rate Eases in March
The annual inflation rate in Seychelles ticked down to 0.24% in March 2026 from a four-month high of 0.30% in the previous month. Prices increased slightly for non-food products (0.14% vs -0.02% in February) but decreased for fresh fish (-4.09% vs -3.18%) and other food (-0.78% vs -0.17%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were almost flat, after falling by 0.08% in the prior month.
