Consumer prices in Seychelles increased 4.5 percent year-on-year in January of 2018, following a 3.5 percent gain in the previous month. It was the highest inflation rate since September of 2015, as prices advanced faster for: other food (2.4 percent compared to 2.2 percent in December) and transport (19.1 percent compared to 4.7 percent). In addition, prices rebounded for furnishing and household equipment (0.5 percent compared to -1.6 percent) and miscellaneous goods and services (0.9 percent compared to -0.8 percent). On the other hand, cost fell for fish (-3.1 percent compared to 1.9 percent) and rose at a softer pace for housing and utilities (10.1 percent compared to 13.9 percent) and alcoholic beverages (3.5 percent compared to 4.8 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went up 2.1 percent, after a 0.3 percent increase in the prior month.
