Serbia Jobless Rate at 1-Year High

Serbia’s unemployment rate rose to 9.1% in the first quarter of 2025, from 8.6% in the previous three-month period, marking the highest rate since the Q1 of 2024.

The number of unemployed people rose by 16.3 thousand quarter-on-quarter to 289.4 thousand, while the employment fell by 7.8 thousand to 2.89 million.

Meanwhile, the labor force participation rate increased by 0.3 percentage points to 56.6% in the first quarter of 2025.

Serbia’s unemployment rate fell to 8.5% in the second quarter of 2025, from a one-year high of 9.1% in the first quarter. The number of unemployed people decreased by 22.4 thousand quarter-on-quarter to 267.0 thousand. Meanwhile, the employment rate inched up to 51.5% from 51.4% in the previous two quarters, even though the number of employed people dropped slightly by 1.2 thousand to 2.89 million. The labor force participation rate fell by 0.4 percentage points to 56.2% in the second quarter.
