Serbia Industrial Output Decline Eases in August

Industrial production in Serbia fell by 0.5% year-on-year in August 2026, easing from a 2.3% decline in July and marking the second consecutive month of contraction.

Manufacturing output dropped by 1.8% (vs -1.6% in July), while electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply rose by 0.8% (vs -8.8%) and mining and quarrying increased by 6.7% (vs 3.0%).

By economic destination, production of durable consumer goods fell by 12.1% (vs -7.9%), intermediate goods excluding energy by 1.3% (vs +0.3%), and non-durable consumer goods by 0.5% (vs -5.1%).

In contrast, energy output rose by 0.8% (vs -7.5%), while capital goods edged up by 0.1% (vs 8.8%).

On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial production declined by 0.6%, following a 0.3% increase in July, with manufacturing down 1.0%.

In the January–August 2026 period, industrial production was 0.1% higher than in the same period a year earlier.

The contraction was driven by declines in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (-8.8%) and manufacturing (-1.6%), while mining and quarrying output increased by 3.0%. By economic destination, production of durable consumer goods fell by 7.9%, energy by 7.5%, and non-durable consumer goods by 5.1%. In contrast, intermediate goods excluding energy rose by 0.3%, while capital goods increased by 8.8%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, overall industrial production increased by 0.6% from June, although manufacturing declined by 1.9%. Despite the July contraction, industrial production increased by 0.3% in the January–July 2026 period compared with the same period a year earlier.

Serbia Industrial Output Decline Eases in February
Industrial production in Serbia declined by 0.3% year-on-year in February 2026, easing from a 9.1% decline in January. This marks the lowest contraction level in four months, as output showed broad-based recovery. Energy production fell by 4.9%, easing significantly from a 21.1% drop in the previous month. Contractions in consumer goods also moderated, with durable goods output declining by 12.4% compared to 24.9%, and non-durable goods falling by 1.7% from an 8.0% decrease. Intermediate goods excluding energy edged down by 0.4%, improving from a 3.4% decline. In contrast, capital goods production increased, rising by 16.7% from 8.6%. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, industrial activity increased by 5.5%, following a 1.4% gain in January. In the first two months, industrial production declined by 4.7% compared to the same period a year earlier.
