Serbia Building Permits Growth Picks Up in June

The number of building permits issued in Serbia increased 11.3% year-on-year to 2,673 in June 2026, accelerating slightly from a 4.6%% rise in May. Buildings accounted for 81.3% of all permits issued, with 81.8% of these intended for residential construction and 18.7% for non-residential buildings. The remaining 18.7% of permits were for civil engineering projects, the majority of which (69.2%) were related to pipelines, communication networks, and electrical lines. A total of 3,873 dwellings were authorized for construction. Of these, 11.3% will be built in single-dwelling buildings, while 87.6% will be constructed in buildings with three or more dwellings. By region, the highest share of planned construction was recorded in the Belgrade region (46.6%).

Buildings accounted for 81.9% of all permits issued, with 81.6% of these intended for residential construction and 18.4% for non-residential buildings. The remaining 18.1% of permits were for civil engineering projects, the majority of which (77.2%) were related to pipelines, communication networks, and electrical lines. A total of 3,554 dwellings were authorized for construction. Of these, 11.4% will be built in single-dwelling buildings, while 87.0% will be constructed in buildings with three or more dwellings. By region, the highest share of planned construction was recorded in the Belgrade region (27.4%) and Zajecar (20.6%).

The number of building permits in Serbia increased by 4.3% year-on-year to 2,416 in April 2026, slowing from 19.3% growth in the previous month. Building construction permits accounted for the majority of total permits at 82.4%. Within this category, residential buildings represented 80.3% of permits, while non-residential buildings made up the remaining 19.7%. A total of 2,657 dwellings were authorized for construction, with 15.2% planned in single-dwelling buildings and 81.9% in buildings containing three or more dwellings. Among civil engineering structures, which accounted for the remaining 17.6% of total permits, the largest share related to pipelines, communication and electrical power lines at 73.6%. New construction works represented 80.4% of the total anticipated value of works. Regionally, construction activity was expected to be highest in the Belgrade region (39.8%), and the South Banat region (10%).
