Namibia Inflation Rate Stable at Near 2-Year High of 4.4%

The annual inflation rate in Namibia stood at 4.4% in July 2026, the highest level since August 2024, unchanged from June. Transportation was the main source of price pressure, rising 9.3%, followed by hotels, cafés and restaurants (6.2%) and recreation and culture (5.6%), while housing & utilities (4.8%) and health (4.8%) also recorded steep increases. Meanwhile, alcoholic beverages and tobacco (2.1%) and clothing and footwear (0.4%) recorded more modest price growth, while communication costs declined by 1%. On a monthly basis, the CPI edged up by 0.1%, after a 0.3% increase in the month before.

The annual inflation rate in Namibia rose for the third month to 4.4% in June 2026, the highest since August 2024, up from 4.1% in the prior month. Upward pressure came from a broad range of categories, notably transportation (12.9% vs 11.5% in May); recreation & culture (5.6% vs 3.8%) and hotels, cafes & restaurants (5.5% vs 4.8%). Prices also advanced faster for food & non-alcoholic beverages (2.5% vs 2%) and miscellaneous goods & services (2.2% vs 1.1%). Meanwhile, housing & utilities (4.4% vs 4.9%) and health (4.4% vs 4.7%) saw softer price increases. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 0.3%, slowing from a 1.2% advance in the preceding month.

The annual inflation rate in Namibia rose for the second month to 4.1% in May 2026, up from 3.1% in April and marking the highest since March 2025. The main upward pressure came from prices of transportation (11.5% vs 5% in April); housing & utilities (4.9% vs 4%) and restaurants & hotels (4.8% vs 4.9%). At the same time, food inflation stood at 2%, the same level as in the prior month, with fruit (12.4%), vegetables (4.9%) and meat (3.5%) registering the biggest increases. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose by 1.2% in May, after a 1.1% increase in the previous month.
