Namibia Inflation Rate at 5.40 percent  
Namibia's consumer prices increased by 5.4 percent year-on-year in August 2017, the same pace as in the previous month. It remains the lowest inflation rate since January 2016. Prices went up at a slower pace for: housing and utilities (8.3 percent from 9.1 percent in July of 2017); transport (2 percent from 2.4 percent) health (5.8 percent from 6.3 percent) and hotel and restaurants (6 percent from 6.1 percent). In contrast, prices advanced faster for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.6 percent from 4.3 percent) and furnishings (5.2 percent from 4.1 percent). Meanwhile, inflation was steady for education (7.8 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased to 0.1 percent.

Output declined for: wholesale and retail trade (-7.4 percent vs -3.2 percent in Q4); hotels and restaurants (-9.3 percent vs 1.8 percent); education (-0.3 percent vs 0.5 percent); manufacturing (-10.7 percent vs 1.8 percent) and construction (-44.9 percent vs -37.7 percent). Also, growth slowed for: public administration (0.7 percent vs 7.9 percent); real estate (1.2 percent vs 2 percent); financial services (0.1 percent vs 2.1 percent); utilities (6.1 percent vs 18.8 percent), transport (0.7 percent vs 5.1 percent) and fisheries (4.6 percent vs 18.5 percent). In contrast, output advanced for mining and quarrying (16.8 percent vs 3.2 percent) and rebounded for health (7.1 percent vs -0.3 percent) and agriculture (10.5 percent vs -13 percent). On a quarterly basis, the GDP fell 1.9 percent.
