Namibia Inflation Rate at 6.70 percent  
Consumer prices in Namibia increased 6.7 percent year-on-year in April of 2017, easing from a 7 percent rise in March. It is the lowest inflation rate since April last year, as prices went up at a slower pace for housing and utilities (9.4 percent vs 9.6 percent in March), food (5.8 percent vs 7.3 percent) and miscellaneous goods and services (6.1 percent vs 6.8 percent). In contrast, cost of transport continued to rise ( 6.9 percent vs 6.5 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices were up 0.3 percent, after a 0.1 percent increase in March.

The Bank of Namibia kept its benchmark repo rate unchanged at 7 percent on April 12th, 2017, saying the current policy stance was appropriate to support economic growth, while maintaining the one-to-one link between the Namibia dollar and the South African rand. Policymakers also said downside risks to the global growth outlook remained, due to shifts towards protectionism by the US, slower growth in China, geopolitical risks, weak banks balance sheet in the Euro Area, as well as high inflation in some emerging economies. Namibia's annual inflation slowed to 7.8 percent in February after hitting a seven-year high of 8.2 percent in January. Still, the inflation remained high compared with an average of 6.7 percent in 2016.

Namibia GDP Annual Growth Rate at -3.10 percent  
The Namibian economy shrank 3.1 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2016, from an upwardly revised 0.8 percent contraction in the previous period and a 4.5 percent expansion a year earlier. Output fell for: wholesale and retail trade (-3.2 percent vs 3.4 percent in Q3); manufacturing (-9 percent vs -0.9 percent); construction (-37.4 percent vs -29.6 percent) and agriculture (-16.2 percent vs 14.6 percent). In addition, growth slowed for real estate activities (2 percent vs 2.7 percent), transport (5.1 percent vs 5.8 percent) and hotels and restaurants (1.8 percent vs 2.4 percent). In contrast, output rebounded for public administration (7.9 percent vs -4.6 percent); education (0.5 percent vs -1.4 percent); mining (0.6 percent vs -7 percent) and fishing (18.5 percent vs 2.1 percent). On a quarterly basis, the GDP contracted 1.7 percent. Considering 2016, the Namibian economy expanded a meager 0.2 percent compared to 6.1 percent growth in 2015.
