Moldova Unemployment Steady in Q1

Moldova’s unemployment rate declined to 3.5% in Q3 2025, the lowest since Q3 2022, down from 4.0% in the previous quarter. Male unemployment fell to 3.9% from 4.4%, while the female rate eased to 3.1% from 3.6%. Urban joblessness stood at 3.1% versus 2.9% in rural areas. Youth unemployment (ages 15–24) dropped to 6.8% from 8.3%. The total number of unemployed fell 5.4% quarter-on-quarter to 31,000, as the labor force expanded by 62,355 to 887,055, lifting the participation rate for those aged 15 and over to 44.9% from 41.8%.

Moldova’s unemployment rate fell to 4.0% in Q2 2025 from an upwardly revised 4.8% in the prior quarter. Male unemployment dropped to 4.4% from 6.0%, while the female rate edged down to 3.6% from 3.7%. The jobless rate stood at 4.1% in urban areas versus 3.9% in rural regions. Youth unemployment (ages 15–24) eased to 8.3% from 10.7%. Meanwhile, the total number of unemployed declined 13.5% to 32,800, while the labor force grew by 40,900 to 824,700, pushing the participation rate among those aged 15 and over to 41.8% in Q2 from 39.7% in Q1 2025.

Moldova’s unemployment rate stood at 4.4% in Q1 2025, unchanged from the same period in 2024. Men accounted for 55% of the unemployed and urban areas for 52.8%. Among those aged 20–64, unemployment was 4.4%, slightly down from 4.5% in Q1 2024. Youth unemployment (ages 15–24) remained the highest at 12.8%. According to the International Labour Organization definition, the number of unemployed persons totaled approximately 35,200, down from 39,700 a year earlier—a decline of 4,500.
