Moldova Producer Inflation Eases in August

Producer prices in Moldova eased to 0.2% year-on-year in August 2026 from an upwardly revised 0.3% in the previous month. Costs declined further in electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (-12.9% vs. -12.8% in July), weighed down by sharper decreases in electric power generation (-14.1% vs. -14.0%) and continued declines in both electricity production (-21.4%) and steam and air-conditioning supply (-10.7%). On the other hand, prices increased in the manufacturing industry (1.2% vs. 0.9%), as beverages (4.2% vs. 2.3%), textiles (1.1% vs. 0.8%), and paper and paper products (2.7% vs. 1.8%) posted gains. Costs also increased in mining and quarrying, rising to 8.1% from 7.7% a month earlier. On a monthly basis, producer prices grew by 0.1% in August, rebounding from a 0.2% fall in the preceding period.

Producer prices in Moldova fell by 0.2% year-on-year in July 2026, following a 0.4% decline in the previous month. This marked the third consecutive month of contraction, driven mainly by a 12.8% decline in prices for electricity, gas, steam and air-conditioning supply, which remained unchanged from June. Meanwhile, mining and quarrying prices increased 7.7%, up from 6.8%, partially offsetting the decline in the overall producer price index. Costs in the manufacturing sector also accelerated (0.9% vs 0.6%), led by stronger price growth for beverages (2.3% vs 1.7%), furniture (0.8% vs 0.5%), and chemicals and chemical products (5.5% vs 2.9%). Prices for basic metals also rose faster (5.4% vs 4.8%). These more than offset slower price growth for food products (1.6% vs 1.9%), rubber and plastic products (0.5% vs 0.7%), and paper products (1.8% vs 2.5%). On a monthly basis, producer prices grew by 0.3% in July, accelerating from a 0.1% gain in June.

This marked the second consecutive month of contraction and the lowest reading since December 2024. Price growth moderated in the manufacturing sector (0.6% vs 0.9% in May), driven largely by slower increases in the prices of food products (1.9% vs 2.2%), beverages (1.7% vs 1.8%), rubber and plastic products (0.7% vs 3.4%), and furniture (0.5% vs 0.6%). Additionally, prices for electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply declined by 12.8%, matching the pace recorded in the previous two months. In contrast, costs increased in mining and quarrying (6.8% vs 6.5%). On a monthly basis, producer prices rose 0.1% in June, easing from a 0.4% increase in each of the previous two months.
