Moldova Inflation Rate Eases to 1½-Year Low

The annual inflation rate in Moldova eased to 4.8% in January 2026 from 6.8% in the previous month, marking the lowest level since July 2024.

Non-food prices moderated to 1.8% from 2.3% in December, largely due to a steeper decline in fuels and lubricants.

Inflation in services also slowed to 7.2% from 14.9%, reflecting lower costs for communal housing services and public catering.

In contrast, cost for food products continued to rise (6.2% vs 5.6%), mainly driven by faster increases in meat, meat preparations and preserves, eggs, vegetables, and vegetable oils.

On a monthly basis, consumer prices stood at 0.9% in January, unchanged from the previous month.

The annual inflation rate in Moldova stood at 7% in November 2025, unchanged from the previous month. Food price growth eased to 6.3% from 6.8% in October, mainly due to slower increases in the prices of meat, meat preparations and preserves, legumes, and vegetable oil. In contrast, prices rose at a faster pace for non-food products (2.68% vs 2.45%), primarily driven by a rebound in fuel prices. Inflation in services also accelerated to 14.19% from 13.76%, largely reflecting higher costs for communal housing services and public catering. On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.3%, down from 0.6% in October 2025.

Moldova Inflation Rate Rises in October
Moldova’s consumer price inflation accelerated to 7.0% year-over-year in October 2025, up from 6.9% in September. Food prices rose 6.8% (vs. 6.7% in September), driven by higher costs for meat, vegetables, and milling and baking products. Service sector inflation climbed to 13.8% from 12.9%, reflecting increases in utilities, household appliance repairs, and public catering services. In contrast, non-food goods inflation eased to 2.5% from 2.8%, due to falling fuel and lubricant prices and slower growth in medicines and footwear. On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.6% in October, following a 0.1% gain in September.
