Moldova Industrial Output at 4-Month Low

Industrial production in Moldova rose 9.3% year-on-year in December 2025, easing from an upwardly revised 11.8% increase in the previous month.

This marked the softest growth in industrial activity since August, as output eased in the manufacturing sector (19.3% vs 19.6% in November), particularly in food products (28% vs 58%) and computer, electronic, and optical products (1.5% vs 14.9%).

Meanwhile, production in mining and quarrying rebounded sharply to 42.8% from a 2.5% drop in the previous month.

Electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply also fell at a slightly slower pace (-8.4% vs -9.8%).

On a monthly basis, industrial output increased 13.7% in December, accelerating from an upwardly revised 8.3% rise in the preceding month.

Considering the full year 2025, industrial production grew 5.4%.

Industrial production in Moldova rose 8.6% year-on-year in January 2026, easing from a 9.3% increase in the previous month. Growth in the manufacturing sector slowed (5.9% vs 19.3% in December 2025), with softer output in food products (16.3% vs 28%), beverages (-13% vs 79.6%), textiles (15% vs 29.1%), rubber and plastic products (0.9% vs 28.7%), and electrical equipment (-7.9% vs 6.1%). Production also declined sharply in mining and quarrying (-63.4% vs 42.8%). Meanwhile, activity recovered in electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (21.5% vs -8.4%). On a monthly basis, industrial output plunged 25.2%, reversing a 13.7% increase in the previous period and marking the weakest reading since January 2022.

Industrial production in Moldova rose by 11.6% year-on-year in November 2025, easing from an upwardly revised 12.1% increase in the previous month. This marked the ninth consecutive month of growth, albeit at a softer pace, as output declined sharply in electricity, gas, steam, and air-conditioning supply (-9.8% vs 37% in October). On the other hand, production advanced in the manufacturing industry (19.4% vs 10.1%), particularly in food products (57.4% vs 32.8%), dairy products (5.5% vs -2.2%), animal feed preparations (47.7% vs 20.3%), and beverages (53% vs -25.4%) Output also fell softer in mining and quarrying (-2.4% vs -20.7%). On a monthly basis, industrial output increased by 8% in November, slowing from an upwardly revised 18.9% in the preceding month.
