Lithuania Inflation Rate Hits Over 2½-Year High

Lithuania’s annual inflation rate rose to 4.8% in March 2026 from 3.6% in the previous month, marking the highest level since August 2023.

Prices increased mainly for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.9% vs 7.3% in February), housing and utilities (6.5% vs 4.4%), health (3.0% vs 2.9%), recreation, sport, and culture (7.8% vs 7.4%), education (3.4% vs 3.3%), and restaurants and accommodation (6.0% vs 5.6%).

At the same time, transport costs rebounded sharply (8.3% vs -0.5%), while deflation eased slightly for furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (-0.5% vs -0.6%).

Conversely, inflation eased for food and non-alcoholic beverages (2.4% vs 4.0%), clothing and footwear (0.4% vs 1.1%), information and communication (1.7% vs 2.7%), and miscellaneous goods and services (5.6% vs 5.9%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.5% in March, following a 1.1% increase in the previous month.

Prices rose for housing and utilities (4.4% vs. 2.6% in January), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.3% vs. 7.2%), health (2.9% vs. 2.8%), recreation, sport, and culture (7.4% vs. 5.4%), clothing and footwear (1.1% vs. 0.9%), and education (3.3% vs. 3.1%). At the same time, deflation eased for transport (-0.5% vs. -1.4%). Conversely, inflation slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4% vs. 4.4%) and restaurants and accommodation services (5.6% vs. 5.8%), while deflation deepened for furnishings, household equipment, and routine household maintenance (-0.6% vs. -0.4%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 1.1% in February, down from January’s one-year high of 1.5%.

Lithuania's annual inflation rate eased to 3.1% in January 2026 from 3.4% in the previous month. This marked the lowest reading since December 2024, as prices moderated for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.2% vs 8.0% in December 2025), health (2.8% vs 3.9%), restaurants and hotels (5.8% vs 6.1%), recreation and culture (5.4% vs 5.7%), miscellaneous goods and services (3.9% vs 4.8%), communication (2.7% vs 3.5%), and education (3.1% vs 3.8%). At the same time, prices declined for transport (-1.4% vs 0.7%) and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-0.4% vs 1.0%). On the other hand, costs increased at a faster pace for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.4% vs 4.1%), housing and utilities (2.6% vs 0.5%), and clothing and footwear (0.9% vs 0.7%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose to a one-year high of 1.5% in January, rebounding from a 0.1% drop in the preceding period.
