Lithuania Inflation Rate Hits Over 1-Year Low

Lithuania's annual inflation rate eased to 3.1% in January 2026 from 3.4% in the previous month.

This marked the lowest reading since December 2024, as prices moderated for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.2% vs 8.0% in December 2025), health (2.8% vs 3.9%), restaurants and hotels (5.8% vs 6.1%), recreation and culture (5.4% vs 5.7%), miscellaneous goods and services (3.9% vs 4.8%), communication (2.7% vs 3.5%), and education (3.1% vs 3.8%).

At the same time, prices declined for transport (-1.4% vs 0.7%) and furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (-0.4% vs 1.0%).

On the other hand, costs increased at a faster pace for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.4% vs 4.1%), housing and utilities (2.6% vs 0.5%), and clothing and footwear (0.9% vs 0.7%).

On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose to a one-year high of 1.5% in January, rebounding from a 0.1% drop in the preceding period.

This marked the lowest reading since May, as prices moderated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.1% vs 4.3% in November), housing and utilities (0.5% vs 1.4%), health (3.9% vs 4.1%), transport (0.7% vs 2.7%), recreation and culture (5.7% vs 5.9%), and restaurants and hotels (6.1% vs 6.2%). In contrast, costs increased at a faster pace for alcoholic beverages and tobacco (8.0% vs 7.8%), clothing and footwear (0.7% vs 0.2%), communication (3.5% vs 3.4%), education (3.8% vs 3.7%), and miscellaneous goods and services (4.8% vs 4.0%), while prices remained steady for furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance (1.0%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices fell 0.1% in December, reversing an eight-month high of 0.4% in the preceding period.

It marked the lowest reading since July, as prices moderated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (4.3% vs 5.1% in October), housing and utilities (1.4% vs 2%), alcoholic beverages and tobacco (7.8% vs 8.4%), health (4.1% vs 4.9%), communication (3.4% vs 3.5%), education (3.7% vs 4%), and restaurants and hotels (6.2% vs 6.7%). In contrast, costs increased at a faster pace for transport (2.7% vs 2.6%), furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance of the house (1% vs 0.7%), recreation and culture (5.9% vs 5.8%), and miscellaneous goods and services (4% vs 2.6%). In addition, prices rebounded for clothing and footwear (0.2% vs -0.6%). On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up to 0.4% from 0.2% in October 2025.
